Music Generation Galway County
Ruth completed her undergraduate BAMus degree with Irish in UCC before continuing on to study Music, Management and Sound in Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, Cork.
Ruth began her career in the arts with Opera 2005, followed by a move to Galway to work with Druid. Since then Ruth has worked in the fields of arts administration, production, marketing, publicity, and project management with companies including Macnas, Dublin Theatre Festival, Galway Arts Festival, Baboró International Arts Festival for Children and, most recently, as a theatre producer with Fíbín Theatre Company in Inverin, County Galway.
Working through Irish gave Ruth an opportunity to re-engage with the language and experience the vibrant Gaeltacht culture – something she brings with her in her role as Music Generation Development Officer for Galway County.
Ruth began playing classical piano at the age of five and in later years took up the drums, gigging regularly with independent bands in Cork City and then with the Macnas drumming troupe in Galway. Most recently Ruth formed the ukulele group, The Ukes of Hazard, a purely ‘for fun’ ensemble of friends who want to reconnect with music.
