Unleash Your Creative Spark with Music Generation on Cruinniú na nÓg

Cruinniú na nÓg is back and bigger than ever! Unleash your creative spark with Music Generation on Saturday 7th June. 

Cruinniú na nÓg is Ireland’s national day of free creative activity for children and young people. Everyone is welcome to take part. 

Young musicians will take over Swords Castle for the We Own The Castle music festival. It is led by Garageland Galaxyz. Catch a live performance on the main stage from Music Generation Fingal band ‘Spectrum’.

Be inspired by the poetry and songs from young creatives in Music Generation Wicklow. They worked with poet Colm Keegan to write poems about their thoughts and feelings. These poems inspired composer Fionn Foley to write a new song called ‘Rathdrum Rhapsody’. Hear it live on Cruinniú na nÓg.

Workshops

Music Generation areas will host a variety of workshops in local libraries. Try ukulele, bodhrán, singing, digital music and more.

Cruinniú na nÓg Ambassadors

Young concertina player Kate Breathnach will be a Cruinniú na nÓg Ambassador for County Clare. Kate performs with Music Generation Clare's Irish Concertina Orchestra. The Cruinniú na nÓg Ambassador for Wicklow will be young musician Fionn Whelan. Fionn is a participant on the Music Generation Wicklow programme.  

Well done to Kate and Fionn on flying the flag for music and creativity in County Clare and County Wicklow!

Event: Inspire Sessions with Music Generation Carlow 

Where: Coláiste Aindriú, Muine Bheag, Co. Carlow 

Try an instrument! This is a series of workshop in a range of traditional Irish musical instruments. Follow Music Generation Carlow on Facebook for updates.

Event: A Song for Glan! with Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan 

Where: St Patrick's Hall, Glangevlin, Co. Cavan 

Young musicians at Curravagh N.S. will perform a  special musical tribute to their home, Glangevlin. The young songwriters have composed a unique bilingual song, celebrating the history and scenic setting of the ancient Kingdom of Glan. Hear them perform it live for the first time on Cruinniú na nÓg.

Event: Rock the Block with Music Generation Cork City and The Kabin Studio 

Where: St. Anne's Park, Shandon, Cork City 

Rock the Block will be an explosion of rock, pop, trad and rap! Guest rap and hip-hop artist Hazey Haze will take to the stage as the festival’s headline act.

Event: Night Beats: Music Tech Lab with Music Generation Clare 

Where: Clare Youth Service, Ennis, Co. Clare 

Dive into the world of digital music creation! Explore beat-making, sampling, looping and digital production, using industry-standard gear. This is open to 14-18year olds and is an evening event 6pm- 9:30pm.

Event: Silent Disco and DJ sets with Music Generation dlr 

Where: Myrtle Square, Dun Laoghaire 

Music Generation dlr will host a silent disco for young people aged 14 – 18 on the evening of Cruinniú na nÓg. Headphones will be supplied, so just bring yourself!

Event: We Own The Castle Youth Music Festival with Music Generation Fingal 

Where: Swords Castle 4pm - 9pm 

Join us at Swords Castle on 7th June from 4pm–9pm for We Own The Castle, a free music festival hosted by Garageland Galaxyz for young people aged 12–19. Enjoy live performances on two stages, creative workshops, and chill-out spaces for poetry and unplugged music. 

Music Generation Fingal’s band Spectrum will take the stage, rocking the crowd with their talent.

Event: Baby Rhyme Time with Music Generation Galway City 

Where: Library Van, Fr. Burke Park, Claddagh, Galway City 

Music Generation Galway City will host Early Years music session at 12pm on Cruinniú na nÓg.

Event: Youth Lates Open-Air Gig with Music Generation Galway City 

Where: Fr. Burke Park, Claddagh, Galway City 

Day Event: Enjoy performances from school bands, ukulele ensembles, songwriters, and youth groups in a celebration of creativity and community. It is open to all ages.

Evening Event: This will see spoken word performances and open mic opportunities for young creatives. It is open to young people aged 14-18.

Event: Toddler Music at Callan Library with Music Generation Kilkenny 

Where: Callan Library 

Join Music Generation Kilkenny for a toddler music session on Cruinniú na nÓg. Your toddler will be moving, clapping, playing, and singing for the full session!

Event:  Laois Le Cheile with Music Generation Laois 

Where: Portlaoise 

Laois Le Cheile is a day of creative workshops and performances for families and community. Hear Bells Ukrainian Children’s Choir and county music band the 'Bass Brothers'. Take part in the Open Mic or a world drumming workshop! 

Laois Le Ceile – Music Generation Laois 

Event: Tin Whistle Performance with Music Generation Laois 

Where: Mountmellick Library 

After weeks of preparation a group of young tin whistle players are ready to make their grand debut. Come along to hear them perform!

Event: Rhythm Rising with Music Generation Limerick County 

Where: Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock 

Young people from Music Generation Limerick County have been having a very creative May. Their creations include a short film that will be screened on Cruinniú na nÓg in Friars Gate Theatre for all to see!

This initiative is in partnership with Foróige, Music Generation County Limerick and Limerick Creative Youth Partnership (LCYP)

Event: Music Bonanza with Music Generation Longford 

Where: Libraries in Longford Town, Ballymahon and Granard. 

Get ready for a musical adventure  with Music Generation Longford. They will host Early Years, Drumming, Bodhrán, Ukulele workshop in three locations. They will have an ASD friendly music hour with a specialist ASD music programme.

Event: Drum, Sing and Play with Music Generation Offaly 

Where: Birr, Clara, Ferbane and Tullamore Libraries 

Music Generation Offaly invites children to explore the magical world of music on Cruinniú na nÓg. They will offer a series of workshops across four libraries in the county. Details for each library are listed below.  

Event: Creative Spark Unleashed with Music Generation Offaly 

Where: Edenderry Library 

Over the last 6 weeks, young musicians have been learning new skills in singing, drumming, dancing and performing. 

Join us for their premier performance showcasing their creativity and talent on Cruinniú na nÓg.

Event:  Sound, String, Sculpture with Music Generation Roscommon 

Where: GRETB, Lansboro St, Roscommon F42 NA72 

Join Music Generation Roscommon for a performance of newly created music.  Roscommon Youth Orchestra have collaborated with the Ability Group to create new music using technology and instruments. 

Experience a demo and taster session with sound beam technology and string instruments. 

Music Generation Roscommon's Musician Educators will be on hand to show you the ropes. Don't miss the unveiling the new ReSounds Sculpture by Monksland Youth Cafè.

Event:  The Square Gig with Music Generation Roscommon 

Where: The Square, Roscommon Town. 1-2pm 

Young musicians and singers from Music Generation Roscommon Hubs will fill the air with music on The Square in Roscommon Town. Enjoy the live performance from 1 to 2pm.

Event: Live at the Marquee with Music Generation Sligo 

Where: Sligo Central Library, Stephen Street, Sligo  

Young musicians from Summerhill College Sligo have been writing and recording original music especially for Cruinniú na nÓg. They will perform it live for the first time on Saturday 7th June in Sligo Central Library. It kicks off at 3pm – don't miss it!

Event: Music Jam Live! with Music Generation Westmeath 

Where: Columb Barracks, Ashe Road, Mullingar 

 

Music Jam Live is back! Music Generation Westmeath will host a live jam session for young musicians and singers from 6pm – 8pm.  

The event is free but booking is required.

Event: Rathdrum Rhapsody with Music Generation Wicklow 

Where: Rathdrum Development Association (RDA) Hall, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow 

Children from schools in Rathdrum have been busy creating something really special for Cruinniú na nÓg! They worked with poet Colm Keegan to write poems about their thoughts and feelings. These poems inspired composer Fionn Foley to write a new song called ‘Rathdrum Rhapsody’. 

Join us at Rathdrum Development Association (RDA) Hall to hear their premiere performance.
