Culture Night 2026 with Music Generation
Celebrate culture, creativity and the arts with Music Generation this Culture Night 2026.
On Friday 25th September, 32 young musicians representing Music Generation from every county across Ireland performed with U2 as part of their 50th Anniversary at Mount Temple Comprehensive School.
The young musicians performed "One" by U2, arranged by Michael Rooney. They were supported in their preparation at Music Generation by Michael Rooney, Maggie Maguire, Siobhan Buckley and Rachel McGarrity.
Today, 1 in every 10 children and young people across Ireland makes music with Music Generation. This is all thanks to U2’s vision, support, and belief in our mission. Music Generation is unbelievably honoured to be part of U2’s 50th celebrations.
Representing Music Generation Tipperary, Aoibhinn aged 10 said "it was the best day of my life."
"At the start when we were learning the tune I had never done classical before. I first listened to the piece and I thought uh oh! Maggie and Michael supported me and by the performance I got it! ...It was amazing, they're one of the best bands of all time. On the day we felt like the big rock stars!" Aoibhinn, Music Generation Tipperary
Music Generation is so grateful to all our partners including U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Youth, and all our Local Music Education Partnerships for supporting the right of children and young people to access music.
Music Generation extends a special thank you to arranger Michael Rooney, as well as the Musician Educators and Music Development Officers across Ireland who supported these young musicians.
