The Apple Hill String Quartet from New Hampshire USA is returning to Donegal for its 14th annual chamber music workshop and concerts on 1 - 3 November 2013. The residential weekend workshop is a firm favourite with classical musicians from across Ireland and takes place in the Outdoor Education Centre in Gartan, Churchill, Co. Donegal. Applications are open to musicians with a minimum standard of Grade 6 or equivalent and there are a few places still remaining.

The quartet will perform two public concerts:

Saturday 2 November, 7pm. Admission Free with a Retiring Collection

• GREAT HALL, UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER MAGEE CAMPUS
Lunchtime concert, Thursday 31 October, 1.15pm. Admission Free with a Retiring Collection

The concert programme is:
• Hayden string quartet Opus 74 no. 3 “The Rider”
• Three pieces for fiddle and string quartet arr. Dana Lynn, guest fiddle Meadbh Kinsella
• Verdi String Quartet in E minor

The Apple Hill String Quartet has been coming to Derry and Donegal since 1999 on their Playing for Peace Tour. Their commitment to young musicians from the area has been significant, regularly inviting students to take part in the Apple Hill Summer Chamber Music Workshop in the 100 acre Apple Hill Campus in New Hampshire where they meet fellow music students from across the world. Over the years students from Donegal Music Education Partnership have been very fortunate to win scholarship places to spend a month's residency at the Apple Hill Centre for Chamber of Music in New Hampshire, USA.
“I found the 'Apple Hill Experience 2012 ' to be one of the highlights of my life to date. I met so many interesting and wonderful people from throughout the world and we all had a common bond of playing music. The enthusiasm and expertise of the staff and tutors influenced me in pursuing music as a worthwhile activity in my life.” Jane Gormley, Donegal, DMEP scholarship recipient.

Weekend course is residential commencing 6pm Friday 1st November concluding with student concert Sunday 3pm. Course fee is €185 (Student €165 ) and includes accommodation, meal, tuition and admission to Apple Hill String Quartet public concert.
