December has been a busy month at Music Generation as partnerships across Ireland continued to create extraordinary experiences for children a young people. Music Generation performers have been keeping spirits high through street performances, classroom singsongs, TV appearances and orchestral extravaganzas!
We’ve captured just a small taster of some of our favourite festive happenings to share before the Christmas break.
Music Generation at The Late Late Toy Show
Music Generation dashed into December with some spectacular performances on RTE One’s Late Late Toy, spreading the festive feeling to over 1.8 million viewers across 150 countries!
Úna Walsh, a young harper from Music Generation Waterford’s Advanced Traditional Ensemble, performed a beautiful show stopper.
The Impossible Dream
Music Generation Laois braved the outdoors to make the premier of The Impossible Dream possible!
Martin Tourish’s The Impossible Dream, explores and commemorates the story of Portlaoise aviator Colonel James Michael Fitzmaurice who led the first East to West transatlantic flight in 1928. In a fascinating parallel, the development of this work faced its own turbulent journey making it to the stage, as Martin and 76 young musicians navigated through the challenges of creating and rehearsing through a pandemic.
The epic premier was performed by the Music Generation Laois Trad Orchestra, directed by Siobhan Buckley at the Laois Music Centre.
Catch the live performance here or read more about the journey. What an epic close to 2021!
Supported by the Arts Office and Heritage Office of Laois County Council and Creative Ireland Laois as part of the Creative Ireland Programme (2018-2022) in partnership with Laois County Council.
