Calling All Music Makers: Celebrate World Children’s Day 2024 through Music!
On World Children’s Day on November 20th we’re inviting young musicians to share their favourite musical moment from We are Music Generation 2024!
Music Generation Wicklow announces the award of approximately €65,000 under the Music Instrument Capital Purchase Scheme. The Scheme managed by Wicklow County Council on behalf of Music Generation Wicklow had two rounds of application. The Scheme is offered on a once off basis in 2013 for those organisations providing music access for children and young people under 18 outside the Music Generation Wicklow programmes. It has provided successful applicants with funding for instruments required to extend their reach and involvement of additional children and young people catered for by their services, whom with out the award of funds would not have had access to an instrument of their own.
The panel met twice to consider applications and recommended a final award of approximately €65,000.00 under the Scheme. Arts Officer Jenny Sherwin stated that “The response was over whelming, it is fantastic to be in a position to support these local schools, youth and community groups providing access to music education for children and young people under 18 in the county”.
All applicants were presented with their award of funding by Councillor Mick Glynn Chair of Music Generation Wicklow and Eithne Egan Director of Operations and Communications with Music Generation at 7pm on the 17th of December in the Glenview Hotel County Wicklow.
Now in its second year, Music Generation Wicklow is a new music education service for children and young people in County Wicklow. It is part of Music Generation – Ireland’s National Music Education Programme, initiated by Music Network and funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds. Locally, Music Generation Wicklow is managed by lead partner Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board, supported by Wicklow County Council and a Music Education Partnership Sub-committee. Music Generation Wicklow’s Programmes involved approximately 3,500 children and young people in its service in 2013. This included choral and instrumental music tuition in primary, secondary and community contexts. On behalf of Music Generation Wicklow, Ann Nolan Manager would like to thank all those who availed of the services in 2013 and the dedicated Music Generation Team from musicians to contractors and development personnel. We look forward to a fantastic 2014!
