Geantraí – An Ghlúin Úr
On Sunday, March 16th 21:30, TG4 will premiere Geantraí- An Ghlúin Úr. Filmed during Galway Tradfest, featuring over 200 young musicians
The Kaleidoscope Big Band is the latest in a series of Musician In Residence programmes to be rolled out by Music Generation Mayo in 2013. The residency programme will be faciliated by saxophonist and composer Dennis Wyers with the Rhombus Quintet, an ensemble with a simple manifesto: 'music should feel honest, responsive and organic.' The Rhombus Quintet comprises Dennis Wyers saxophones/composition, Georgia Cusack voice, Bill Blackmore trumpet, Cormac O'Brien double bass, and Matthew Jacobson drums.
Over the course of this residency participants will learn about composition, improvisation and performance and will have the opportunity to work together closely with a professional ensemble while hearing their own music come to life. The aim of the Kaleidoscope Big Band music project is to be as inclusive as possible, to bring together a diverse range of young musicians who are of the standard needed to perform a concert of newly composed music.
Participants are welcome from all musical genres including classical, jazz, traditional and rock.
If you would like to participate in the Kaleidoscope Big Band download the information and participation form here and return to Music Generation Mayo by post or e-mail by 12pm on Wednesday November 13th 2013.
