Music Generation Louth, Louth’s new music service established last year with Co. Louth VEC as the lead partner and seed funding from U2 and the Ireland Funds, will host a range of activities over the Easter holiday period that are guaranteed to keep young musicians busy.
It has been announced that locally renowned musician Zoe Conway will lead a series of traditional music workshops for children and young people. These workshops will take place at O’Fiaich College in Dundalk on Monday and Tuesday, 02 and 03 April. The same workshops will also run at Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda on Wednesday and Thursday, 04 and 05 April. Zoe has recently joined Music Generation Louth`s panel of instrumental tutors and the workshops offer a magnificent opportunity for younger players in the county to work with one of Ireland’s most talented and highly regarded musicians. The sessions will cater for both junior players and senior players. Zoe is keen to involve all types of instruments in these ensemble workshops, including traditional, classical and anything in-between.
For those with tastes in classical music, Music Generation Louth’s team of string tutors will also be facilitating two days of orchestral workshops for young string players aged between 7 and 12 years. These will take place at Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda on Monday, 02 April and in O’Fiaich College, Dundalk on Tuesday, 10 April. These classical music sessions will cater for both new and existing players. They will give those with some experience the chance of playing as part of an orchestra, while newcomers will be provided with the opportunity to try out a range of stringed instruments, both big and small.
Music Generation Louth is a new music service for the county that aims to help children and young people up to eighteen years of age access music tuition in their local area. It is led by Co Louth VEC and is part of Music Generation, a national programme for music education initiated by Music Network with funding from U2 and the Ireland Funds. Create Louth and Co. Louth VEC have provided local partnership income.
