Music Generation Cork City: pilot programme for children living in residential care

Music Generation Cork City is delighted to announce the commencement of a pilot programme for children living in residential institutions under the care of the HSE. Ardscoil Álainn, a school located on the grounds of the HSE’s Special Care Unit for girls, Gleann Álainn and High Support Unit for Boys Árd Doire, housing 8 residents in total will be involved. The HSE is one of the major stakeholders of Music Generation Cork City and this programme was identified as a priority from the earliest planning stages. Consultation has taken place with the current residents and staff, and they will begin a month of introductory music workshops on May 7th, followed by an intensive week-long summer camp during the coming summer. The programme will be documented through reflective sessions built into the work for the tutors and the provider engaged in delivery, as well as reflective journals for the residents and care workers. One of the aims is to include the staff in any music activities, to allow for residents and staff to work on creating music.
