Music Generation Sligo presents Fleadh Fusions 2015 with Zoë Conway, John McIntyre, Sligo Academy of Music & Young Musicians.
Monday 10 August 2015 8pm
Music Generation Sligo continues this very special concert style, bringing together masters and apprentices, fusing traditional music with orchestral to perform and craft a new sound-world for Fleadh Cheoil 2015.
With an exciting blend of electric fiddle and guitar music, Zoë Conway & John McIntyre bring to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music. They possess a rare facility to draw pieces into their repertoire from other genres such as classical, jazz and world music and express this material in a way which not only displays the sheer range and knowledge of both instrumentalists but also exhibits the wonderful versatility of their instruments. Zoë, the Riverdance veteran, is a musician who can readily share a stage with a string quartet, a fellow fiddler or Lou Reed. The recent release of their critically acclaimed album Go Mairir i bhFad – Long Life to You has brought international attention to them, earning them a glorious five stars from The Irish Times. For this unique album, twelve leading Irish composers were commissioned to each create a piece specifically for Zoë and John. “Simply one of the best folk duos on the planet” BBC.
Joining them in this exciting performance is Niamh Crowley with the Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta & a number of talented young traditional Sligo musicians. No strangers to the stage!
