Co. Clare Music Education Partnership

Co. Clare VEC, in co-operation with Maoin Cheoil an Chláir, is leading the Music Education Partnership (MEP)for Co. Clare to advance the development of a cohesive framework for the promotion of music education in the county. It follows a public meeting at Glór Theatre in Ennis on 21st October 2010 attended by representatives from the local music infrastructure, the Local Authority and the VEC. More than forty contributions have since been received from a broad range of interests including music teachers, musicians, community groups, youth/ family resource groups, schools and parents' associations.

The Clare MEP has been formally established to provide viable, inclusive and enduring plans for the enrichment of music in a county already synonymous with a unique tradition of music. It incorporates a pioneering model of community music education which has been the bedrock of Maoin Cheoil an Chláir since its foundation in 1994. As well as Clare VEC and Maoin Ceol an Chlá ir, the partnership includes Clare County Council, Clare Education Centre, the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in UL, the County Development Board, GLOR and Shannon Development as well as private sector and community interests. The focus is on widening access and improving quality of music education for young people and doing this with creativity, versatility, integration and sustainability.
