Schedule:
The workshop and seminar is for students, teachers, singers, conductors and anyone interested in the field of choral music. The open workshop will be led by Professor Mary Goetze (University of Indiana), a pioneering and internationally renowned music educationalist and advocate of social justice through music, whose contributions to music education have been described as ‘monumental’. She is founder of the International Vocal Ensemble (IVE) and in order to bring world choral music and musicians to IVE, has gone to the cultures themselves and lived and worked with the people. In 2007 she was awarded the Building Bridges Faculty Award from the Dr Martin Luther King Day Celebration Committee, as well as the 1997 Faculty Award from Indiana University’s Commission on Multicultural Understanding. She continues to produce multimedia materials for the oral transmission of musics from around the glob and to participate in choral festaivlas workshops and residencies at universities around the world. The workshop will commence with an introduction to conducting children’s choirs, featuring the children’s choir of St. Nessan’s School, Mungret.
The second part of the workshop is open to any choral singer or conductor who wishes to participate. Potential participants need to contact the Academy at the contact details below in advance of the workshop. The Irish World Academy ensemble, Lucernarium, will also feature in the workshop.
The seminar will include a presentation from Dr. Goetze and responses from a panel of choral experts and practitioners. The focus of the seminar is on choral music practice and training opportunities in Ireland.
