A new Music Generation Development Officer announced for Sligo

Together with Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) and Sligo Local Music Education Partnership, Music Generation is delighted to announce the appointment of accomplished singer and music educator Róisín Egan to the role of Music Generation Development Officer for County Sligo.

In her new role Róisín will build on Music Generation Sligo’s strong foundations, further developing the extensive performance music education programme first established in the county in 2011. Together with the Music Generation Sligo team of skilled musician educators she will continue to create opportunities for children and young people to access high quality, affordable tuition within their local communities.

A Sligo native, Róisín has been involved with Music Generation in the county since the start, first as a musician educator and for the past six years as Lead Special Educational Needs Tutor. As a member of the team she also co-authored a resource methodology book for postgraduate teachers of children with Special Educational Needs: ‘Con Tutti Music and Autism a practical method for developing a music programme for children with Autism’.

Róisín graduated with a BMus Hons Degree specialising in Performance from the DIT Conservatoire of Music in 2007. She has been a vocal teacher for more than ten years and in 2012 co-established ‘Singskool’, Sligo’s leading early years music school that teaches, nurtures and develops children’s innate musicality and musical talent from six months to six years old.

Commenting on the news of her appointment, Róisín said: ‘I am delighted to take up the role as Music Development Officer for Music Generation Sligo. Music Generation Sligo has been a force in Sligo since 2011, adding and contributing to Sligo’s rich musical landscape and bringing performance music education to the four corners of our beautiful county and beyond. I look forward to opening many new doors in Music Generation Sligo and nurturing and expanding the creativity in the programme together with an experienced team of Music Educators. Together, our goal is to bring music performance to the forefront and create opportunities for young people in Sligo.’

Sligo is one of 25 areas of Ireland currently participating in Music Generation, Ireland’s National Music Education Programme which seeks to transform the lives of children and young people by creating access to high-quality, subsidised performance music education in their localities. Nationally Music Generation is co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds and the Department of Education and Skills. In Sligo the programme is managed by Sligo Local Music Education Partnership, led by MSLETB in partnership with Sligo County Council Arts Office, Sligo Education Centre, Sligo County Childcare Committee, Cranmore Regeneration and the local music sector.
