2017 Blog Music Generation South Dublin Suburban Sounds 560x373
Young musicians from Killenarden Community School, South Dublin recently recorded their very own original track as part of the Suburban Sounds Schools initiative.

The project is facilitated and managed by Alternative Entertainments and CONTACT studio (part of South Dublin County Council’s Arts Department), and funded under the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership Project.

Check out their very own original track, 'Lone Wolf', written, recorded and mastered as part of the project:

Suburban Sounds is a 12 -week evening-course in music open to young people ages 14 to 18 years who have a passion for song-writing, music composition and/or music performance. The programme creates an opportunity for the young musicians involved to work collaboratively to develop their song-writing, recording and videography skills on-site in their school. The bands are mentored throughout their journey by Martin Moran (Alternative Entertainments), Elton Mullally and Gerry Horan (CONTACT Studio), along with their expert team of musicians and music industry professionals.

The project at Killenarden CS concluded with a recording session at CONTACT Studio, the production of a CD, and an incredible live performance for a packed house at The Grand Social, Dublin, on 8 April 2017. The Grand Social event was the end-of-project concert for the Suburban Sounds Tallaght group that operates out of RUA Red Ats Centre. The young artists featured on the night included Dean Hollywood, Mufaro Gambe, OG Odigie, Jordan McKeon, Jack Harris, Shauna O’Keeffe, Josh Tuite, Megan McGarry, Fionn Fealey, Taylor Odigie, Jason Casey O’Reilly, Rachel Greene and Brandon Jones.

Suburban Sounds will host a summer programme in the Lucan/Clondalkin area during July, focusing on all the elements of the schools-model including an end-of-project performance. And looking ahead to the next academic year the initiative is set to expand into new South Dublin County post-primary schools. Stay tuned for more details!
