Performance of Speranza, a choral composition by Transition Year students in Carlow

Speranza is new choral composition by Transition Year (TY) Students from Borris Vocational School Carlow working with Linda Buckley, Contemporary Irish composer.

Responding to a sound installation by Janet Cardiff, The Forty Part Motet 2001 (A reworking of “Spem in Alium” by Thomas Tallis 1573), the students have been experimenting with various rhythmic and harmonic motifs and exploring the possibilities of creating a vocal arrangement in response to Jane Cardiff’s artistic work which is on exhibition at VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art in Carlow.

This creative group of TY students have worked extremely hard over the past few months, and are thrilled to be performing their piece Speranza (meaning ‘Hope’ in Italian) this Friday 20th December 4pm at VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art in Carlow, Old Dublin Road, Carlow. Festive refreshments will be available. A second performance will take place Thursday 16th January at Borris House, Borris, Carlow.

This collaborative project was commissioned by Carlow Local Authorities Arts Service working with Music Generation Carlow, VISUAL Carlow and Borris Vocational School.
