Ahead of its performance at the Tullamore Court Hotel on December 4th, members of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Fergus Sheil will visit the Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra to help coach the young musicians.
Speaking about the education programme Sinéad O'Reilly, Offaly County Arts Officer, commented: “The Arts Offices of Offaly and Westmeath, together with Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath are delighted to be in a position to partner with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra to deliver a series of master classes to the young people of the Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our young musicians, to learn from and play with some of the finest in the country. Having the opportunity to play alongside the RTÉ NSO on Dec 4th in Tullamore, will make evident to the community in general, the calibre of young musicianship we have in the Midlands and the importance of nurturing and supporting their development.”
This endeavour will culminate in the Youth Orchestra performing as the opening act for the National Symphony Orchestra's Tasmin Little on Tour, conducted by Fergus Shiel. The RTÉ NSO Concert Programme includes:
John Adams: The Chairman Dances
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No 1
Arturo Márquez: Danzón No 2
Igor Stravinsky: The Firebird Suite (1919 version)
