Music Generation Offaly Westmeath launches first phase of Instrument Bank

Offaly Westmeath
The first phase of Music Generation Offaly Westmeath’s Instrument Bank was completed in September 2014, funded by Offaly Westmeath Music Education Partnership in collaboration with Mullingar Employment Action Group, and supported by Westmeath Community Development under the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme 2007 – 2013.

Over 550 instruments, including guitars, keyboards, drum kits, string, woodwind and brass instruments, are now available to young people taking part in Music Generation Offaly Westmeath programmes and who are resident in rural Westmeath.

The provision of musical instruments has enabled Music Generation tutors to progress children who have been following the Kodaly programme onto an instrument. Local Transition Year students secondary are also availing of the instrument bank to develop their own musical projects and avail of after school tuition.

Following a successful pilot programme in Loughegar NS, Co Westmeath, a new large group string tuition programme has also been introduced, with plans to extend this to a second participating school in the coming weeks.
