Live Music in the Classroom in Kilglass NS, West Sligo

Sligo Kilglass Recorders
On Thursday 27 March, Kilglass NS received a visit from 'The Odd Couple', jazz musicians Kieran Quinn, keyboard, Eddie Lee, double bass, Ken McDonald, percussion.

Here is what Music Generation Sligo had to say about the visit:

“20 children in 4th-6th class have been learning the recorder with tutor Colette Brooks as part of Music Generation Sligo's Discovering & Performing Music Programme. The children performed a number of pieces on their recorders including Djembe Jam and Jitterbug - they were accompanied by the musicians and sounded brilliant! The rest of the school couldn't resist the music coming from the room so children and teachers all squeezed in to hear The Odd Couple talking about their instruments and performing a number of tunes including the popular theme tune to The Simpsons, which went down very well. The session finished with a lovely performance by children & musicians of U2's All I Want Is You, arranged by MGS musician Karl Burthom, with the permission of U2. Principal Billy Varley commented on how much the children have enjoyed the programme and that 3rd class are really looking forward to getting started next year!"

Kilglass recorder class will join three other schools and a String Quartet in Owenbeg NS, West Sligo on Friday 11th April to perform the full arrangement of All I Want Is You for recorder, violin, guitar, keyboard and voice.
