Early Years Music for Cruinniú na nÓg

On Saturday 15 June 2019 the four Dublin Local Authorities collaborated to offer musicians the opportunity to take part in training and skills development sessions. The sessions were developed as part of Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creativity for those aged under 18 and a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth plan, where thousands of young people, parents and families have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of fun, free, creative activities. Those who availed of the training workshops included professional musicians from Music Generation Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown and Music Generation South Dublin.

The sessions were facilitated by experienced Early Years practitioners, Julie Tiernan and Thomas Johnston. Julie and Thomas have been honing their skills and understanding of music for the very youngest children, learning songs and activities to share with the budding musicians they met during Crinniú na nÓg. The training was illustrated through creative Early Years music-making workshops.

This collaborative initiative was facilitated in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and South Dublin by Music Generation, and by the Arts Offices of Dublin City and Fingal County Councils, funded by the Creative Ireland Cruinniú na nÓg programme.
