Choral conductor and master teacher Dr. Doreen Rao delivers workshops to young singers

MG 6 SJ
On Sunday April 6th, Music Generation with the Association of Irish Choirs, the Choral Music Experience Institute and Music Education Partnerships will present the first ever national ‘BIG SING’ event in The Round Room at The Mansion House. On that day up to 400 children and young people from every corner of Ireland will gather together with their teachers to participate in what promises to be a very exciting event.

The event is the culmination of a Choral training programme that has been running since September for choral conductors, choir leaders and music teachers seeking continued professional development in conducting and teaching children and youth choirs. Directed by Dr. Doreen Rao (choral conductor and master teacher, University of Toronto Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting and Professor Emeritus, Music Director of the Buffalo Master Chorale and Director of the US Institute for Choral Teacher Education), along with a specialist faculty, this course in choral conducting and teaching is grounded in the core values of diversity, inclusion and social responsibility.

In the preparation leading up to this exciting BIG SING event, participating Music Education Partnerships will experience a rare and valuable workshop opportunity, delivered by Dr. Doreen Rao. This will be a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience for the young singers and choral leaders, as Dr. Rao travels around Ireland delivering workshops in counties, Louth, Donegal, Laois, Cork, Carlow, Wicklow and Westmeath. Quite an itinerary to complete in the space of a fortnight!

We wish all the young participating singers the very best as they take part in these special workshops followed by a national performance in their nation’s capital!
