Quality Framework

We believe that all the children and young people we work with deserve to realise the very best in themselves throughout their musical journeys, and we aspire to the highest possible outcomes.

Music Generation's Quality Framework was developed from April 2018 to June 2019 in collaboration between the National Development Office and Music Development Officers (MDO), and with support from the Department of Education and Skills.

Its purpose is that children and young people involved in Music Generation should experience the best possible quality of opportunity and delivery across genres, contexts and geographic areas.

To create the conditions in which this vision can be realised, we intend work together at all levels – local and national – to ensure that we are continuously reviewing and improving our practices.

Therefore, we have chosen to adopt a process-based view of quality. We believe that quality is a dynamic feature of music learning, and that thinking about quality as something to work with in a spirit of continuous
improvement – rather than something to achieve as a fixed point – is more likely to lead to improvements in practice and outcomes for children.

Our Quality Framework Toolkit, published in 2019, is intended as a guide through this process.
