Pádraig Rynne appointed as Music Generation Clare Development Officer

Together with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB), Music Generation is delighted to announce the appointment of renowned musician, composer and music educator Pádraig Rynne to the role of Music Generation Development Officer for County Clare.

In his new post, Pádraig will build upon the strong foundations for performance music education in Clare and create new opportunities for children and young people ages 0 to 18 to access high quality, affordable tuition within their local communities. He will work on behalf of Music Generation Clare in partnership with schools, community groups, youth and arts services to develop choirs, ensembles, Creative hubs and other initiatives across diverse musical genres and styles.

On the announcement of his appointment Pádraig described his vision for the programme: ‘I’m thrilled to take up the role of Music Generation Development Officer in Clare, and to have the chance to extend the opportunities for children and young people throughout our County to engage in creative musical encounters with inspiring music educators. Having previously worked as a tutor on the programme, and as a practicing musician and composer, I have experienced first-hand the huge benefits of accessing music from a young age. It can be transformative for children, groups and communities. The music landscape in Clare is already so vibrant, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and partners to grow and enrich that tradition into the future.’

Pádraig Rynne is a virtuoso musician, prolific composer and is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today. Included in his band work he was a founder of the band Triad with Dónal Lunny and Sylvain Barou, and a member of the Scottish/Irish super group, Atlantic Arc Orchestra. Pádraig works very regularly with other artists, has featured on over thirty albums and has curated a number of high-profile ensembles and tours. He holds an MA in Music Technology and, as a sound designer, Pádraig has lent his music and unique creative soundscapes to many albums and productions. Currently Pádraig performs with Irish instrumental group NOTIFY – a ground-breaking ensemble combining Irish traditional music with jazz elements. Prior to his appointment as Music Generation Development Officer, Pádraig worked as a tutor with Music Generation Clare.

Clare is one of 20 areas of Ireland currently participating in Music Generation, Ireland’s National Music Education Programme which seeks to transform the lives of children and young people by creating access to high-quality, subsidised performance music education in their localities. Nationally Music Generation is co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills. In Clare the programme is managed by Clare Music Education Partnership, led by LCETB with funding support from Clare County Council.
