On Friday 4 December the Institute of Sligo’s Centre for Research in Social Professions hosted a one-day conference, entitled ‘Embedding Research Evidence in Community Development’.
Among those presenting on the day were Music Generation Sligo’s Rhona McGrath and Emma Smith, alongside Fiona Jennings and Ailbhe O’Halloran from the Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity (CSENID). Together, Rhona, Emma, Fiona and Ailbhe presented a poster on the Effective Delivery of Music Programmes to Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs.
The presentation outlined the unique partnership between Music Generation Sligo and CSENID, exploring the delivery of music programmes to children and young people with SEN and looking at how research has been embedded in each stage of the project.

The Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity (CSENID) at St. Angela’s College was created in 2011. It builds upon the foundation of the Education Department in St Angela’s College that has served the Irish education community through the provision of quality in-service teacher education and continuing professional development programmes in the area of SEN for teachers and other professionals in a variety of educational settings since 1995.
In keeping with St Angela’s College’s mission, the Department’s dedicated and innovative staff is continually initiating, developing and modifying programmes to respond proactively and positively to existing and emerging needs of the educational community regionally and nationally. The work of CSENID includes curriculum planning, programme delivery, research and resource development.
