First Winner of Music Generation South Dublin Bursary Announced

The very first winner of the Music Generation South Dublin contribution to The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for Young Musicians was officially announced last week. Amy Costello was awarded €1000 to learn piano and sight read music which will assist her classical singing career.

Amy was awarded the bursary as part of The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for Young Musicians. Now in its sixth year, this award is made to young musicians, composers and singers in the county to help support their musical development. This is the first year that Music Generation South Dublin has been involved and it is delighted to contribute alongside South Dublin County Council and the Halpin Family. The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for Young Musicians is just one of eleven awards made to talented young artists of all disciplines from across South Dublin County as part of South Dublin County Council’s annual bursary award scheme. This year saw a total of €15,300 awarded to young artists.

Mayor Fintan Warfield met with the award winners in County Hall to congratulate them on their achievements and he acknowledged the award winners valuable contribution to the artistic development of the County. Orla Scannell, Arts Officer, spoke about the history of the Bursary Awards which were established in 2000. The meeting provided a wonderful opportunity for all of the Artists to meet the Mayor, and for the Artists to meet each other and exchange information about their ideas and projects.

The other winners in The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for Young Musicians were Oliver Jordan Kelly and Miriam Kaczor. Congratulations to all the winners.
