New appointments at Music Generation Cork City and Donegal Music Education Partnership

DMEP New Appointments 560x370
We are delighted to welcome Kay Taaffe to the Music Generation team as Acting Coordinator with Music Generation Cork City. We also send our best wishes to Martin McGinley, who takes up the role of Acting Music Development Officer with Donegal Music Education Partnership.

As a musician, educator and administrator, Kay Taaffe has held a number of developmental and leadership roles in music education. As a music graduate, she took an M.Ed. and M.A. at University College Cork and completed her doctorate at King's College London.

Kay’s initial professional experience was as a teacher at the Cork School of Music. She was a founding member and Director of Cork City Music College and Music Outreach Network. At national level, she served on the National Executive of the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras and the Irish Association of Music Schools.

More recently, as Development Manager at the Leinster School of Music and Drama, Griffith College Dublin, Kay led new programme development in Music Education, Drama Education and Music Production. Passionate about links between scholarship, research and praxis, she has undertaken and supervised research in music education, arts education, Early Childhood Studies and Inclusive Education.

Kay joined us in November 2015 and is thrilled to be part of the team. We wish her every success in her new role and look forward to the next phase of Music Generation Cork City.

Martin McGinley is one of Donegal's best-known traditional fiddle players and teachers. He has also presented television and radio programmes on traditional music on RTÉ and the BBC. A former BBC television journalist and newspaper editor, he has served on the boards of leading cultural organisations in the North West, including the Walled City Music Festival, the Millennium Forum and Void Gallery. He is currently completing a Music MA with the Open University.

Martin is delighted to be working with Donegal Music Education Partnership.

Congratulations to both Kay and Martin on their recent appointments!
