Carlow Young Creatives band development initiative to open up a new world of creative music making!
More than 30 young aspiring musicians from Carlow are set to enter the world of creative music-making for two weeks as they take part in a brand new band development project, Carlow Young Creatives, presented by Music Generation Carlow and facilitated by Wall2Wall music.
This initiative, which will run from 1 – 14 August in Scoil Mhuire gan Smal NS, is funded by the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership and Music Generation Carlow.
The Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership enables children and young people involved with Music Generation to engage actively with high-calibre professional musicians from all genres of music and facilitates an ambitious range of residencies, collaborative performances and composition projects around the country.
Over the two weeks these young musicians, aged between 13 and 18 years, will build up the skills they’ll need to become musicians for the 21st century. Together with the professional musician team at Wall2Wall Music and Music Generation Carlow they’ll explore the worlds of composition, performance, sound engineering, technology, production and marketing.
Participants will form their own instrumental groups, with each band comprising of usual rock/pop instruments as well as instruments from musical genres such as traditional Irish and jazz. They’ll also have a chance to record their own music and discover more about the promotion and marketing of music today.
Carlow Young Creatives will conclude with a public showcase concert on Sunday 14 August at 7pm in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre.
Tickets for the concert are free (allocation of 4 tickets per person), but advance booking is advised, online at www.visualcarlow.ie or by phoning box office: +353 59 917 2400
