07022018 News MG South Dublin 560x373

On Friday 16 February Suburban Sounds, in partnership with Music Generation South Dublin, will host a ‘SubSounds: Schools Listening Party’. This event will launch the first 7 singles recorded by the secondary school students involved in the Suburban Sound Schools programme.

Suburban Sounds is a youth music collective based in RUA RED Arts Centre in Tallaght. It is a partnership between Alternative Entertainments, CONTACT Studios, South Dublin County Council Arts Office and Music Generation South Dublin. Participants compose, arrange, perform and record their own material, working on individual and group projects over a six-month period. Students are mentored by professional musicians and music industry professionals towards creating, producing and performing music from the original conception to the final product and performance. This performance music programme focuses on creativity, tuition, group work, and project management, aiming to empower and link young people in the community using a creative platform for self-expression.

Take a look back at the journey of some of the students from Killenarden Community School, who participated in the project last year:

The Suburban Sounds team have been working since October 2017 with students in the following schools:

• Firhouse Community College
• Collinstown Park Community College
• Coláiste Bride, Clondalkin
• Coláiste Eanna, Ballyboden
• St. Aidan’s Community School, Tallaght
• Killinarden Community School, Tallaght
• Suburban Sounds Tallaght Group

Taking place at 6.30pm in Áras Chronáin, Clondalkin, the ‘SubSounds Schools: Listening Party’ will give audiences an opportunity to hear from the young musicians, teachers and tutors involved in the programme, followed by the reveal of the tracks played for the first time in public.

Suburban Sounds Schools is funded under the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership Project and by Music Generation South Dublin, South Dublin County Council and Dublin/Dun Laoghaire ETB.
